ITINERARY
The tour consists mainly of visits to 3 places that hide, in their underground part, historical wonders:
– First of all, we will walk through Almoina, the Roman city of “Valentia”, we will be able to investigate the customs of our ancestors and their legacies in our daily lives.
Did you know that the Romans also ate “fast food”? In this area of the city, we can also observe the Roman origins of the city, it has preserved the main axes, the crossing of the main streets, which are the thistle and decumanus. In this same postponement, archaeologists found baths from the Republican period with their typology perfectly preserved.
– Secondly, a few meters away, we will go down to the crypt of San Vicente, the holy martyr of Valencia, declared as such after the persecution of Christians in Roman times. Here we can still find part of the Visigothic cathedral of the ancient city, one of the few Visigothic vestiges of the city. That building was reused in Muslim times for baths.
– Thirdly, we will go to the admiral’s baths, Arab baths from the Christian period where we can investigate the customs of our ancestors and their legacies in our daily lives. They are in perfect condition to understand what the ritual of body hygiene of medieval times consisted of.
Surely you will be surprised to know that the Arabs, both men and women, shaved their bodies as well as that sometime later the Christians gathered in the baths to try all kinds of soaps and perfumes.
